During the last couple weeks, we are seeing lots of signs of spring in southern Missouri — dogwoods blooming, fish biting, mushrooms growing and turkeys gobbling. Several days last week were great golfing temperatures with a bit of wind. Happy 88th birthday to Clifford Wingo, Wedgewood member. Clifford comes from Mansfield several days a week to play in the daily game.
Congratulations to Saxon Green, Cabool High School Golf Team member, for placing 6th at districts and advancing to state sectional competition. Also good luck to Nick Rogers, Mtn Grove High School Golf Team member, for placing 13th and advancing to sectionals.
Wedgewood league play begins this week. Women’s league will play Mondays at 9 AM and Wednesdays at 6 PM. Men’s league will play at 6 PM Tuesdays and the Cat & Dog will play Fridays at 6 PM. Non members can play for $5 league fee. The new leased carts are available for rent — $11 for 9 holes and $15 for 18 holes.
Saturday, May 5th was a beautiful golfing day for the first 2018 Wedgewood tournament. Forty-one area golfers participated in the 1-Person 18-Hole Scramble Tournament. The course is in great shape this season but is wet in a few low lying areas. Winners included Championship flight 1st place Richard Williams, Eminence; 2nd place Jordan Slayton, Willow Springs and 3rd place Roger Tune, Houston. A-Flight 1st place Trent Jones, Cabool; 2nd place, Dustin Hunter, Cabool and 3rd place, Leroy Trone, West Plains. B-Flight 1st place Marty Todd, Mtn Grove; 2nd place Channan Boatright, Mtn. Grove and 3rd place Michele Myers, Willow Springs.
Twenty golfers participated in the Cash Shoot Out Game and the 1st place winner was Wedgewood member, Michele Myers hitting the ball to 81.5 inches to the hole. Second place was Leroy Trone, West Plains with 105 inches and 3rd place was Aaron Hawkins, Mtn. Grove with 110 inches. Thank you to our 2018 Shoot Out sponsors. Without these local businesses this event would not be possible — Cabool Home Center, Cabool Tires, Inc., Community First, Country Mart, DT Engineering Lebanon Missouri, Dairy Queen Cabool, Dr. Steve and Joan Hawkins, Legacy Bank, McGownd Auto Sales, Missouri Gun Co., Peoples Community Bank, Piney River Brewing Company, ReMax Farm and Home, Richard Brothers, River Rock Redi-Mix, and Subway of Mtn. Grove.
The winner of the Derby Party hat contest was Mary Auen. The winner of the Derby horse race game was Martin Kaps and the horse race consolation place was Mary Beth Kaps (a good race for the Kaps).
The next Wedgewood tournament will be the 2-Person 18-Hole Scramble Saturday, June 16th and next the Cabool Alumni Tournament Friday, June 29th.
